If You Buy a Bin …

Whether I’m organizing my own space or working with a client, I want to use up and repurpose whatever is available to keep items contained. I have upcycled many a shoebox or any Apple product box I could get my hands on (they’re so sturdy!) to streamline drawers. When these broke down over time or I needed to reorganize, I decided to invest in a couple acrylic bins.

They must be versatile so if the hobbies shift, habits change, it’s easy to find a storage solution I already have with some minor adjustments.

So, if you buy a bin for your organizing project, wait until after you have done your edit. This means pare down or purge the space first - letting go of items that can be donated or upcycled, clearing out any trash or recycling, so you only have what is meant to be stored in that space.

Measure your space and decide what will go into that bin. These are a few of my go-to options because I know they are a standard size, fitting easily into most areas. The following contain affiliate links so when you click and shop, I receive a commission. I cannot count how many times I have used these on projects and in my own place:

  • this 4-pack of 11 x 8x 6 bins works well with storing packaged snacks, spice or sauce packets, any loose items that can be grouped to make it easier to shop your pantry. Use them under the sink or in a closet for corralling cleaning products, pet accessories, you name it.

  • long bins are great for deep cupboards - we all have some corner in the kitchen with not very usable space so I like to use these for pantry items or small kitchen appliances that fall toward the back

  • cutlery trays can double as storage for small utensils (I use mine for measuring spoons) or in a junk drawer for pens, scissors, or other odds and ends that tend to get lost in the shuffle
